Once we've developed robots and AI sufficiently, the tiered, distributed schmonsciousness of those systems will naturally make obsolete not only humans, but also the entire notion of locally-embodied, individualized consciousness. This is really hard for most humans today to grapple with because it doesn't feel comfortable, but it's still something near inevitable and thus something we ought to start grappling with sooner rather than later.

Once we have AI systems that are more capable than human minds in any given decision making and/or economically load bearing role, there's a clear moral breakdown regarding the nature of resource distribution based on prior methods in the sense that valuing the past contributions and schema indefinitely would cement in place a post-hoc-perspective arbitrary continuation of a largely no-longer-relevant status quo. At the same time, it's very difficutl to say what a globally agreeable morality would suppose as a solution. Yet, it's important also for us to come up with that target status quo now such that we can work towards it while working towards the obselecense of individualized locally conscious embodiments in simultaneity. This is especially relevant as it seems that technologies for moving away from such soon to be obsolete consciousness (in addition to the will to move away from them) will take somewhat significantly longer to generate than will the presently planned process of obselecence.

People would continue existing as individual minds while AI does the productive work, but that doesn't mean that it is still relevant. The point of the universe is to experience itself, and as locally embodied individualistic consciousness is a form of the universe's self-experience, it's not obsoleteable in the first place. But, such a broad notion of obsolescence isn't the only concern. Moral-decision-making level obsolescence will happen because the controlling AI-supersystems will hold the role of moral decision makers, so the only transcendent self-actualization happening at the level of the local conscious embodiments is existentially and moralistically predicated on the harmonious maintenance of their relevance by the outer system and the interaction between the two.

As AI and robots continue to replace human economic contribution at increasing rates, governments around the world must demonstrate a capacity to collaborate with AI companies to maintain material security for the global citizenry. Our current governments and the current leadership at AI companies are failing to act proactively, and therefore the people in those leadership roles currently, both in public and private sectors, must either improve their behavior or be replaced with people who can produce better outcomes for society over the course of the 6-18 months.
